How It Works and Security

Blockbates is a non-custodial shopping interface on the Base blockchain. Purchases use a purpose-built smart contract to send USDC to the merchant and return an instant rebate to the same wallet in one transaction.

Your Wallet Stays in Your Control

• Blockbates never asks for a seed phrase, recovery phrase, or private key.
• Your self-custodial wallet shows the transaction and asks for confirmation before it is submitted.
• Blockbates cannot initiate a transaction without wallet approval.

What a Purchase Authorizes

1. You choose a product, quantity, and merchant.
2. Your wallet approves the smart contract to use only the exact USDC order total, not an unlimited amount.
3. The smart contract sends the merchant portion to the order destination and returns the rebate to the purchasing wallet.

Smart Contract Safeguards

• The smart contract can use only the configured USDC token and an amount specifically approved by the buyer.
• The contract has no owner, administrator, withdrawal, or arbitrary-call function.
• The approved order amount is consumed by the purchase transaction.
• Transactions and contract activity are permanently visible on the public Base blockchain.

The Blockbates demo runs on Base Sepolia and uses free testnet USDC. Testnet tokens have no monetary value.
